Gelendzhik
What is it, Gelendzhik? It is a 100 kilometers of a Black Sea coast which are visited by around 2 million tourists every year. The most ancient evidence about people who inhabited this area totals 200 000 years and dates from the Paleolith. Dolmens, the predecessors of the Egyptian Pyramids, made West Caucasus be famous world-wide: only in Gelendzhik region was discovered about two hundred of these constructions. History of Russians here begins at 1831 year. Gelendzhik Fortress was the first Russian Fortification at Black Sea Coast of Caucasus. Gelendzhik quickly developed and to the beginning of 20 century became a known place for Russia Intellectuals: artists, poets, students, doctors, engineers who have done a lot for Gelendzhik to became a real resort and gain a fame of the “Russian Riviera”.
There are many showplaces which can afford a real great pleasure to every one. You can start acquainting with the town history from the Gelendzhik Museum. You will be told here about the history of the settlement , archaeological excavations and unique monuments of Nature. You will be put up to the literary property of the place and the creations of the famous Russian writer V.Korolenko in the Korolenko’s Literature Museum. The most famous Paleolithic monuments in the Gelendghik region are Dolmens (“Zhane Valley” and “Pshada Dolmens”). In “Mikhaylovskoe Fortification” you will learn about the history of Caucasus Wars, bravery act of Arkhip Osipov and difficulties of Russian settling at the Black Sea coast. Also, we recommend you to visit The “Sail” Rock, “Beacon by Fransua De’Tonde”, “Kastalskaya Kupel” and Spring “Natasha”.

Mini-Aquapark «Dolphin», Aquapark «Hyppo», the entertaining park «Admiral Vrungel», the biggest Aquapark in Russia «Golden Bay», two cableways and view sites as a part of «Safari Park» and «Olympus» recreation zones – it is a Gelendzhik City today.
